The Astronaut Safe Temporary Ride Options Act amends federal law to allow NASA to provide transportation for federal astronauts and space agency employees returning from space missions before they receive medical clearance to drive themselves. This accommodation applies when transportation is necessary for medical research, monitoring, treatment, or other official duties approved by the NASA Administrator. The bill requires NASA to submit annual reports to Congress documenting each instance of transportation provided, including the names of individuals transported, descriptions of the transportation, and associated costs. No new federal funding is authorized for this purpose—the transportation must be covered within existing NASA budgets. The reporting requirement begins one year after the bill's enactment and continues annually thereafter.
