The Advancing Research in Nuclear Fuel Recycling Act requires the Secretary of Energy to conduct a comprehensive study on technologies and methods for recycling spent nuclear fuel within 90 days of enactment. The study must also examine how to site recycling facilities, identify regulatory gaps in current law, assess impacts on communities currently storing spent fuel, and recommend policy changes to support recycling development. Within one year, the Secretary must submit a public report to Congress (limited to 120 pages) that presents findings, identifies remaining technical and economic barriers, and provides policy recommendations to advance nuclear fuel recycling commercialization.
