The REHIRE Act provides hiring preferences to career federal employees who are involuntarily removed from their jobs between January 2025 and January 2027. Eligible employees would receive priority consideration for new federal positions and receive five additional points added to their job application scores to improve their chances of rehiring. The law does not apply to employees removed from political appointee positions or those fired for documented misconduct, poor performance, or delinquency. These hiring preferences would last for five years after the bill becomes law. The bill was introduced in April 2025 and referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
