The ANCHOR for Military Families Act requires the Department of Defense to provide comprehensive information to military members and their families about relocation assistance programs when they receive orders to move to a new duty station. Specifically, the bill expands the types of information that must be shared—including details about school enrollment, special education services for children with disabilities, housing assistance, mental health support, legal counseling, and spouse employment resources—and mandates this information be delivered at least 45 days before the move takes effect. The Defense Department must make these resources available through accessible materials, online platforms, and briefings at military installations while developing a communication strategy to increase awareness. Finally, the bill requires the Secretary of Defense to report to Congress annually for four years on implementation efforts, including how many military families are aware of available programs and recommendations for improving how relocation assistance information is shared.
