Referred to the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, and in addition to the Committees on Education and Workforce, Small Business, and Energy and Commerce, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
The Artificial Intelligence Literacy and Inclusion Act directs the National Science Foundation to award grants to nonprofits, schools, and other organizations for developing and running AI education programs in local communities. The funds can support curriculum development, training for underserved populations (including people of color, low-income individuals, rural residents, seniors, and people with disabilities), public awareness campaigns, and program evaluation. The bill prioritizes organizations with experience working with marginalized communities and innovative approaches to AI education. Additionally, the bill requires five federal agencies—Labor, Commerce, Small Business Administration, Education, and Energy and Commerce—to submit reports within one year on how they can better integrate AI literacy into their existing programs, from workforce development to K–12 education, and to identify which of their current grant programs could be modified to support AI literacy initiatives. The reports must be made public and developed in consultation with educators, industry experts, and community organizations.
