This bill directs the Secretary of the Interior, through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, to establish a new Urban Bird Treaty Program aimed at protecting birds and their habitats in cities. The program would support partnerships with federal, tribal, state, and municipal agencies, nonprofits, community groups, and academic institutions to restore urban bird habitats, reduce hazards to birds, promote community science and monitoring, and educate the public about bird conservation. It also creates a competitive grant program, which could be administered through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, to fund research, planning, habitat management, and workforce training related to urban bird conservation, with an emphasis on distributing awards fairly across small, midsize, and large cities. The bill affects local governments, conservation organizations, and communities working on urban wildlife issues nationwide. It authorizes $200,000 per year in federal funding for the program from fiscal years 2027 through 2033.
