The Trafficking Reduction And Criminal Enforcement Act (H.R. 3823) aims to combat illegal firearm trafficking through several enforcement measures. Additionally, the bill requires licensed firearms dealers to conduct physical inventory checks of their stock and mandates that background check records be preserved for 180 days instead of being destroyed immediately. The legislation removes various congressional restrictions on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that have previously limited enforcement activities and record-keeping. The Attorney General must issue regulations implementing these requirements within 180 days of the bill's enactment.
