The Health Investment Zones Act of 2026 establishes a grant program to improve health outcomes and reduce health disparities in designated communities. Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations and local government agencies that successfully apply to lead Health Investment Zones, which can then distribute funds to healthcare providers in the form of subgrants up to $5 million to cover half the costs of equipment and facility improvements. Recipients may also use grant funds to implement innovative public health initiatives such as mobile clinics, patient transportation services, healthcare provider training for diverse populations, and programs addressing food and housing insecurity. All funded activities must support each zone's documented health improvement plan. The legislation authorizes open-ended federal funding over a 10-year period beginning when the first zone is designated, giving Congress the authority to appropriate whatever amount is necessary to implement the Act's programs.
