Summary

Highlight any text to annotate
This bill requires that all short-term rental properties—including single-family homes and condominium units rented for fewer than 30 consecutive days—must have both a working smoke detector and a carbon monoxide detector. The requirement applies to anyone who owns, rents out, or facilitates the rental of such properties and covers accommodations advertised or sold across state lines. The Federal Trade Commission will have authority to write detailed regulations and enforce the law, treating violations as unfair or deceptive practices subject to FTC penalties. The requirement takes effect one year after the bill becomes law, giving property owners time to install the safety equipment.
