This bill revives and expands tax benefits for employees who commute by bicycle or similar devices. Under current law, employer-provided bicycle commuting benefits were suspended; this legislation removes that suspension and allows employers to offer tax-free reimbursements or direct provision of bicycles, electric bicycles, and certain scooters for commuting purposes. The benefits cover not just the purchase of these vehicles but also their repair, maintenance, storage, and rental through bikeshare programs. Employees can receive up to 30 percent of the monthly transit benefit cap in tax-free bicycle commuting benefits, and the law applies to all taxable years beginning after December 31, 2024. The bill affects employers and employees nationwide by providing a financial incentive for more environmentally sustainable commuting options.
