This bill establishes a congressional commission to develop recommendations for strengthening civics education in the United States. The eight-member commission, appointed by Senate and House leadership, will review the current state of civics education across all levels, evaluate existing federal programs, assess teacher preparation, and identify best practices. The commission must produce a proposed age-appropriate civics curriculum and a national strategy document within 15 months of its first meeting, then submit these recommendations to Congress and the Department of Education. The Secretary of Education will subsequently make the curriculum and strategy available to all state education agencies. The commission will receive $2 million in funding and will automatically dissolve 60 days after submitting its final recommendations, estimated to end roughly two years after it begins operations.
