This bill requires the Secretary of Transportation to establish a working group within 90 days to develop guidance and best practices for responding to electric vehicle fires on public roads and at charging stations. The working group will include at least 22 members representing emergency responders (such as firefighters and police), the towing industry, automotive manufacturers, battery makers, and research organizations like the National Fire Protection Association, along with relevant federal agencies. The working group will continuously review electric vehicle fire risks and existing response procedures, then periodically issue or update guidance based on their findings. Members will also report roadside EV fire incidents to a national database maintained by the United States Fire Administration to track response procedures and outcomes. The working group will submit annual reports to Congress and will terminate after 10 years, with the Department of Transportation funding administrative costs from its existing budget.
