The Supporting the Mental Health of Educators and Staff Act of 2025 establishes a comprehensive federal effort to improve mental health support for teachers and school staff across the nation. The bill directs the Department of Health and Human Services to identify best practices for preventing suicide and supporting mental health among education professionals, launch a national awareness campaign to reduce stigma around seeking mental health treatment, and fund grants to schools and universities to create or expand mental health programs for educators. Eligible recipients include school districts, state education agencies, and colleges that can use funding for peer support programs, mental health training, telehealth services, and staff awareness initiatives. The legislation authorizes $10 million annually from 2026 to 2028 for the awareness initiative and $35 million annually for the same period to support on-the-ground mental health programs, with priority given to schools serving low-income communities. The bill also requires the federal government to review and report on the effectiveness of these programs and assess existing federal mental health funding to avoid duplication of efforts.
