This bill establishes a federal task force and grant program to address preventable maternal deaths and health problems in the United States. The Department of Health and Human Services will convene a task force bringing together officials from multiple federal agencies—including Housing, Transportation, Agriculture, and Labor—along with maternal health experts, community organizations, and patients to develop coordinated strategies. The task force will focus on both medical and non-medical factors affecting maternal health, including housing, food access, transportation, childcare, environmental conditions, and domestic violence. Additionally, the bill authorizes $100 million in grants annually from 2027 through 2031 to community-based organizations and tribal health programs working in areas with high maternal mortality rates and poverty to address these social determinants. The task force must submit reports to Congress within two years and annually thereafter outlining its progress and funding recommendations.
