The legislation amends existing gun control and Brady Act regulations to ensure that pretrial firearm restrictions are included in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which dealers must use before selling weapons. To help states and tribal governments report pretrial orders, the bill authorizes $25 million in grants annually from 2026 through 2030 to improve data reporting to the federal database. The bill affects gun dealers, law enforcement agencies, and any arrested individual subject to a court order prohibiting firearm possession pending trial.
