This bill requires the Department of Homeland Security to pay a one-time bonus to employees who worked without receiving pay during the federal government shutdown that began on February 14, 2026. The bonus equals 10 percent of the wages these employees should have earned during the shutdown period. The payment must be made within one day after the shutdown ends. The bill applies only to DHS workers who actually performed their jobs while not receiving paychecks—employees who were already paid during the shutdown are not eligible. This measure compensates federal workers for their unpaid labor during the shutdown as a form of hazard pay or recognition of hardship.
