This bill prohibits the U.S. Forest Service from constructing or approving a year-round road project to access private property (the Berlaimont Estates parcel) within Colorado's White River National Forest. The legislation is motivated by significant staffing cuts at the Forest Service—which lost 6,000 employees between January 2025 and December 2025—that have reduced hazardous fuels reduction projects by 40 percent and trail maintenance by 22 percent nationwide. Rather than fund new road construction, the bill directs the Secretary of Agriculture to prioritize wildfire risk reduction, forest health, recreation, and water resources with limited staff resources. The bill also requires the federal government to attempt purchasing the private property from willing sellers within 180 days, in coordination with Colorado state and local authorities, so it can be incorporated into the National Forest for conservation purposes. Existing seasonal roads and Forest Service roads can continue to be used under current regulations.
