This bill makes it easier for military members to transfer their Post-9/11 GI Bill education benefits to family members. Currently, service members can only transfer these benefits while they are actively serving in the military, but this bill would allow transfers to happen at any time. The bill also reduces the minimum service requirement for eligibility from the current standard down to at least six years of service in the uniformed services. The legislation removes several restrictions and procedural requirements currently in place for benefit transfers. The bill does not specify any new funding amounts, as it primarily restructures existing GI Bill transfer policies to provide veterans and active-duty members with greater flexibility in how and when they can pass education benefits to their family members.
