The Protect Your Points Act of 2026 would establish consumer protections for airline frequent flyer programs and co-branded credit cards. Airlines would be required to clearly display the dollar value of points and miles on their websites and apps, eliminate expiration dates on earned points, allow consumers to transfer points to others without fees, and prohibit charges for redeeming or accessing points. Within one year, airlines must show airfare prices in both dollars and points on booking pages, display their annual redemption rates, and let customers purchase flights using any combination of cash and points. The bill also requires airlines to give customers at least one year's notice before making any changes that would reduce the value of earned points and to implement multi-factor authentication for account security within 90 days. The Transportation Secretary would oversee implementation and coordinate with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Federal Trade Commission as needed.
