This bill would prohibit sitting Presidents and Vice Presidents from receiving settlement payments or damages from the federal government in any disputes with the United States. The restrictions also extend to their spouses, dependent children, and any trusts or entities they control. Former Presidents and Vice Presidents would have limited ability to pursue claims after leaving office, but only under strict conditions including publication of agreements in the Federal Register and notification to Congress. The bill establishes penalties of up to $1 million in fines, five years imprisonment, or both for violations, and would apply to any payment requests occurring after the law's enactment regardless of when the underlying claim arose.
