This bill establishes the Fort Ontario Holocaust Refugee Shelter National Historical Park in New York as a new unit of the National Park System. The park will preserve and interpret the history of 982 refugees from World War II who were sheltered at Fort Ontario from August 1944 to February 1946. The park cannot officially open until the Secretary of the Interior determines that sufficient land has been acquired from the proposed boundary area to create a manageable park unit, at which point the Secretary must publish a notice in the Federal Register. The Secretary is authorized to acquire land through donation, purchase, or exchange, and must complete a comprehensive management plan within three years of receiving funding. The park will be administered under standard National Park Service laws, and the Secretary may enter into agreements with New York State and other entities to provide educational services and help interpret historic resources in the area.
