Tyler's Law requires hospitals, medical examiners, and coroners to report deaths and serious injuries of children to the Consumer Product Safety Commission when those incidents appear to involve children's products or infant/toddler products. Hospitals must submit reports within seven days of determining an injury or death is product-related, including details about the incident, the product, the child, and the type of care provided. Medical examiners and coroners face the same seven-day reporting deadline for child deaths linked to these products, with failure to comply resulting in loss of federal accreditation grants from the Department of Justice. The law applies to incidents occurring 180 days after enactment and makes hospital participation in Medicare conditional on compliance with these reporting requirements. The bill does not specify additional federal funding and instead leverages existing Medicare conditions and grant eligibility to enforce compliance.
