The U.S. Diplomatic Posture Review Act of 2025 requires the Secretary of State to conduct a comprehensive review of how the State Department deploys its staff and resources around the world to support U.S. national security and foreign policy goals. Within 180 days of enactment, the Secretary must submit a detailed classified report—with an unclassified summary—to Congress covering all U.S. diplomatic posts, the quality of services provided to American citizens abroad, foreign assistance spending, staffing and operational costs by country, and planned personnel and resource changes for the coming year. The bill requires annual updates to this review and mandates that the Secretary brief Congress within 30 days of each report on steps the State Department is taking or plans to take to adjust its diplomatic strategy. The legislation also establishes a senior coordinator position within the State Department, reporting directly to the Secretary, to oversee the review process and ensure it reflects current strategic priorities and resource needs.
