The Jamie Reed Protecting Our Kids from Child Abuse Act would create a federal civil lawsuit option for anyone who received gender-transition medical treatments (such as puberty blockers, hormone therapy, or related surgeries) as a minor and claims to have suffered bodily injury or mental health harm as a result. The bill allows individuals to sue pediatric gender clinics, medical practitioners who performed the procedures, and affiliated hospitals or universities up to 30 years after turning 18, seeking compensation, punitive damages, and attorney's fees. The legislation also prohibits all federal funding for pediatric gender clinics and gender-transition procedures on minors, and applies retroactively to treatments given before, on, or after the bill's enactment. The law includes narrow exceptions for individuals with naturally ambiguous sex characteristics and for treatments addressing infections or emergencies caused by prior procedures.
