This bill creates criminal and civil penalties to prevent people from impersonating Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers or selling unauthorized ICE-branded apparel and insignia. Anyone who is not an actual ICE officer and wears or displays ICE insignia in a way that could be interpreted as impersonation faces up to 7 years in prison and fines. Additionally, manufacturers and sellers of counterfeit ICE apparel without Department of Homeland Security authorization face civil penalties of up to $100,000 per violation, and such items are subject to seizure and forfeiture. The bill requires DHS to establish a public awareness campaign and national hotline for reporting ICE impersonation, mandates sentencing enhancements of at least 6 months for immigration official impersonation convictions, and directs the Government Accountability Office to study the issue every 180 days. DHS must issue implementing regulations within 180 days of the bill's enactment.
