The Loggers Economic Assistance and Relief Act establishes a federal payment program to help timber harvesting and timber hauling businesses recover from major disasters. Eligible businesses that experienced at least a 10 percent loss in gross revenue during any 30-day period or quarter compared to the same timeframe in the previous year can receive payments equal to 10 percent of their lost revenue, which must be used for operating expenses. The program is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency and includes insect infestations among qualifying disasters. The bill authorizes $50 million annually from 2026 through 2029 and requires the Secretary of Agriculture to report to Congress on all payments made, including recipient names and amounts.
