The AI DATA Act authorizes the federal government to collect comprehensive labor market data to measure how artificial intelligence and automation affect the American workforce. Specifically, the bill requires the Department of Labor to conduct monthly surveys tracking job openings, hiring, and layoffs; annual household surveys measuring how people spend their time at work and use new technologies; and long-term surveys following individuals over many years to assess impacts on earnings and job stability. The Census Bureau would also add questions to its Business Trends and Outlook Survey, published quarterly, asking businesses about their AI adoption and workforce changes. The Departments of Labor and Commerce must publish annual reports analyzing all this data to provide a clear picture of AI's effects on employment, wages, occupational demand, and training needs across industries. These new data collection activities and reporting requirements are authorized for ten years, with unspecified funding levels to be determined by Congress.
