The MORE American Fuel Act of 2026 streamlines the licensing process for uranium enrichment facilities by aligning their regulatory requirements with other nuclear fuel cycle facilities under the Atomic Energy Act. The bill allows companies to begin constructing uranium enrichment facilities before receiving final operating licenses from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, provided they notify state and local officials and tribal governments at least 15 days before construction starts. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission must issue updated regulations within 180 days to reflect these changes, and the bill allows exemptions for applications already pending when the new rules take effect. The legislation does not eliminate the Commission's authority to deny licenses if facilities fail to meet safety and operational standards, nor does it affect the public's right to challenge the Commission's decisions in court.
