The PREPARE Act directs the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Department of the Interior to create a pilot program that positions aerial wildfire suppression resources in five states—Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, South Dakota, and Wyoming—to help fight early-season wildfires before they spread. The program will establish protocols for keeping firefighting equipment and aircraft ready and available in these regions during high-risk seasons. The effort will be coordinated with each state's existing wildfire management agreements and the Rocky Mountain Area Coordination Center. The pilot program will use existing wildland fire management funding rather than requiring Congress to approve new money. This approach aims to improve response times and containment of wildfires during their most critical early stages.
