The Delivering Americans Affordable Homes Act allows the U.S. Postal Service to lease its real property to state, local, and tribal governments and their development partners to build housing and generate revenue. The bill requires the Postal Service to establish a Housing Liaison Office within 60 days that will identify suitable parcels from the agency's roughly 8,500 properties nationwide, publish an inventory of available land, and establish a process for developers to propose housing projects. Each lease must be at least 60 years long, require that at least 20 percent of units be affordable to households earning 80 percent or less of the area median income for at least 50 years, and provide the Postal Service with revenue equal to the property's fair market value. The legislation authorizes $10 million annually for fiscal years 2027 through 2031 to fund the Housing Liaison Office's operations, with the Postal Service able to reserve up to $10 million yearly from lease revenues to support the program's activities.
