This bill directs the U.S. Department of Agriculture to transfer approximately 8.97 acres of National Forest System land within the Black Hills National Forest in South Dakota to Pennington County at no cost. The land, which includes any improvements on it, will be conveyed to the county for use as a public works facility, such as a highway maintenance facility, or for other purposes the county deems necessary. The bill requires the Forest Service to complete the conveyance as soon as practicable after the legislation is enacted and to adjust the Black Hills National Forest boundary accordingly to reflect the transfer. No specific funding is allocated in the bill since the land is being transferred without payment. The legislation was introduced in August 2026 by South Dakota Senators John Thune and Mike Rounds.
