The Restoring American Citizenship Act of 2026 would change U.S. citizenship law by modifying who automatically receives citizenship at birth. Currently, anyone born in the United States is generally a U.S. citizen under the Fourteenth Amendment. This bill would deny automatic citizenship to children born in the United States if neither parent is a U.S. citizen or lawfully admitted permanent resident at the time of birth. The bill would also deny citizenship to children born to parents who are applicants for admission to the United States. The changes would apply only to people born after the bill's enactment, leaving the citizenship status of people born before unchanged.
