H.Res. 558
H.Res. 558 is a commemorative resolution remembering the July 4, 2022, mass shooting at the Highland Park Independence Day Parade in Illinois. The resolution honors the seven people killed in the attack—Katie Goldstein, Irina McCarthy, Kevin McCarthy, Stephen Strauss, Jacquelyn Sundheim, Nicolas Toledo-Zaragoza, and Eduardo Uvaldo—along with more than 40 people wounded and the broader community affected by the tragedy. The resolution recognizes the bravery of emergency responders and healthcare providers from dozens of agencies and facilities who responded to the shooting, as well as the counselors who have helped survivors heal over the past three years. It notes that the shooter was sentenced to life in prison without parole and expresses support for the community as it marks the three-year anniversary. The resolution also references Congress's passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and commits to continuing efforts to reduce gun violence nationwide.
