This bill expands the Alaska Native Vietnam Era Veterans Land Allotment Program by making additional federal land available for eligible veterans to select. The legislation opens lands within the National Wildlife Refuge System and National Forest System in Alaska that were previously identified as suitable for allotment but were not yet available for selection. The bill requires the Secretary of Agriculture to identify additional available forestland within one year and immediately make those lands available for selection, while excluding certain sensitive areas such as congressionally designated wilderness, lands within 300 feet of navigable water bodies, and suitable timber lands. This measure fulfills a long-standing commitment to Alaska Native veterans from the Vietnam War era who were promised land allotments under existing law but have faced limited options for claiming their entitlements.
