This resolution commemorates the one-year anniversary of devastating wildfires that struck Southern California on January 7, 2025. The fires burned nearly 60,000 acres across Los Angeles County and surrounding areas, killing 31 people, destroying over 16,000 structures, and displacing more than 200,000 residents. The two largest fires, the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire, caused some of the costliest wildfire damage in U.S. history by devastating entire neighborhoods, homes, schools, and businesses. More than 7,500 firefighters and emergency personnel from across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and 12 tribal nations responded to battle the unprecedented blazes. The resolution honors those who died, recognizes the heroism of first responders, and affirms the Senate's commitment to supporting ongoing rebuilding efforts in affected communities like Pacific Palisades and Altadena.
