The Save Great Lakes Fish Act of 2025 updates the Great Lakes Fishery Act of 1956 to authorize new efforts to combat invasive mussel species in the Great Lakes. The Great Lakes Fishery Commission is authorized to develop and implement these control efforts in coordination with federal agencies, states, tribes, and local governments. Three federal agencies—the Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Geological Survey, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration—are directed to assist with these efforts. The bill authorizes $500 million in funding over a ten-year period from fiscal years 2026 through 2035 to support these invasive species control programs. This funding is in addition to any other money already appropriated for Great Lakes fishery management.
