The Protecting Homes from Trains Act of 2025 directs the Department of Transportation to create a grant program funding the design and construction of barriers along railroad lines that run near homes. Eligible applicants include states, local governments, Amtrak, freight railroads, and partnerships between these entities. The bill authorizes $100 million annually from 2026 through 2030—totaling $500 million over five years—with the Secretary of Transportation required to establish the program within 180 days of the law's enactment.
