Referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and in addition to the Committees on Ways and Means, Education and Workforce, and Oversight and Government Reform, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
The Healthy MOM Act aims to improve access to pregnancy and maternity care by creating new enrollment opportunities and coverage requirements for pregnant women and new mothers. The legislation extends Medicaid coverage for pregnant women and new mothers to a full 12 months postpartum (rather than the current 60 days) and prevents states from reducing income eligibility thresholds for pregnant individuals below current levels. The changes take effect January 1, 2027, with the Medicaid provisions beginning one year after enactment. The bill addresses significant disparities in maternal mortality, particularly affecting Black and Native American women, with the goal of ensuring affordable access to care that can prevent approximately 60 percent of pregnancy-related deaths.
