This bill directs the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to study how the tech industry is protecting children online and report back to Congress on its findings. Within six months of the law's passage, the FTC must begin reviewing industry efforts such as parental controls, educational programs, age-appropriate content labels, privacy settings, and other safety tools designed to reduce online harms for minors under 17. The agency will consult with parents, mental health experts, technology specialists, and other stakeholders during this review. The FTC must submit its final report to Congress within three years, including findings on how effective these industry safety measures are and recommendations for industry, Congress, and government agencies to improve online safety for young people. The bill does not allocate specific funding or create new requirements for tech companies to implement safety tools, but rather establishes a fact-finding process to evaluate what already exists.
