To direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to temporarily extend the period during which certain individuals may file claims for medical care under the CHAMPVA program of the Department of Veterans Affairs, and for other purposes.
H.R. 6585 gives veterans and their families more time to file medical claims through CHAMPVA, the Veterans Affairs health care program for eligible dependents and survivors. Specifically, the bill temporarily extends the deadline for filing claims to 365 days after individuals receive notice that they've been retroactively approved for CHAMPVA coverage. This extension applies to people who are eligible for CHAMPVA and also qualify for Medicare Part A hospital insurance benefits. The temporary extension runs from when the bill is enacted through September 30, 2027. The Secretary of Veterans Affairs will establish regulations to implement these extended filing deadlines, giving affected individuals a fuller year to submit their medical claims after approval.
