Referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and in addition to the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
The Office of Fusion Act of 2025 creates a new dedicated Office of Fusion within the Department of Energy to accelerate the development and commercialization of fusion energy technology in the United States. The office will coordinate fusion research and development across multiple government agencies and partner with private sector companies to meet an ambitious goal of starting construction on more than one private commercial fusion power plant by December 31, 2028. The office will manage public-private partnerships, develop supply chain infrastructure, provide technical expertise to regulators, and expand international cooperation on fusion energy. Within one year of enactment, the Secretary and the new Office Director must submit to Congress a commercial deployment roadmap identifying barriers and specific activities needed to meet deployment milestones, with updated roadmaps due every four years thereafter. The bill does not specify new funding amounts but consolidates existing fusion programs previously managed by the Department of Energy's Office of Science under this new unified office structure.
