This bill directs the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress to establish an oral history program documenting the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack. The program will collect video and audio recordings of personal histories and testimonials from people directly affected by the events, including members of Congress, congressional staff, Capitol Police officers, law enforcement, journalists, and other witnesses, along with written materials such as emails, text messages, and photographs. These recordings and materials will be cataloged and made available to the public through the Library of Congress's National Digital Library and other appropriate platforms. The bill authorizes $500,000 in funding for fiscal year 2027 and allows for additional appropriations in subsequent years, while also permitting the Library of Congress to accept private donations to support the project. The Director must prioritize collecting testimonials from individuals whose accounts are at greatest risk of being lost and from those offering essential perspectives on the events.
