S.Res. 695
This Senate resolution commemorates the historic achievement of the Artemis II mission, which launched on April 1, 2026, and successfully sent four astronauts farther from Earth than any humans had traveled since the Apollo era. On April 6, 2026, the crew aboard the Orion spacecraft "Integrity" broke the distance record previously held by Apollo 13, ultimately reaching 252,760 miles from Earth before safely returning on April 10. The mission marked several historic firsts, including the first woman, first African American, and first non-U.S. astronaut to travel beyond low Earth orbit, and represented the first human journey to lunar vicinity in over 50 years. The resolution honors the four crew members—NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen—while recognizing the contributions of thousands of engineers, scientists, and support staff from government agencies and more than 2,700 companies involved in the mission.
