H.R. 7067, the No Violent Criminals in the Federal Workforce Act, would ban individuals convicted of crimes of violence from federal employment and working on federal contracts. The law applies to anyone with a final conviction (one that has been fully appealed or is no longer appealable) for a crime of violence under federal, state, or local law. Current federal employees convicted of such crimes would be required to resign or be removed from their positions, and federal agencies cannot hire or contract with individuals or companies where such a person holds a leadership role or ownership stake. The bill includes a narrow exception that allows the Office of Management and Budget Director to waive these restrictions if enforcing them would create a unique hardship for the federal government. Federal agencies would have six months after the law's enactment to update contracting regulations to implement these provisions.
