The AI for Secure Networks Act directs the Secretary of Commerce to conduct a comprehensive study on how artificial intelligence can be used to strengthen telecommunications network security. The study will examine AI's potential benefits—such as detecting threats in real-time, improving network reliability, reducing energy use, and enhancing security systems—as well as any risks AI might pose to network security. The Secretary must consult with the Federal Communications Commission and industry partners during the research and development process. Within one year of the bill's enactment, the Secretary must submit a report to Congress with findings and potential legislative recommendations, after allowing the public an opportunity to provide comments. This bill does not authorize specific funding or create new programs, but rather establishes a fact-finding effort to inform future policy decisions on AI's role in protecting critical telecommunications infrastructure.
