This bill extends two major federal conservation funding programs to treat the District of Columbia the same as states. The Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act and the Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish Restoration Act currently fund wildlife and fishing conservation efforts across the country through excise taxes on hunting and fishing equipment. By amending the definition of "State" in both laws to include D.C., the bill would allow the District to receive funding and participate fully in these restoration programs on equal footing with the 50 states. Currently, D.C. is either excluded or receives minimal funding from these programs. The changes are technical in nature—removing language that excludes or limits D.C.'s participation—and would enable the District to access federal conservation dollars for wildlife and sport fish management, similar to other states.
