Referred to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and in addition to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
The CAR SEAT Act directs the Secretary of Transportation to launch a nationwide education campaign warning the public about dangerous counterfeit and noncompliant child car seats and booster seats that don't meet federal safety standards. The campaign must begin within one year of the law's enactment and will teach parents and caregivers how to identify and avoid these unsafe products. The bill also expands existing highway safety programs to include public education activities focused on this issue. Congress has authorized $1.5 million in funding for the campaign, which will remain available until spent. This legislation affects families with young children across the country by helping them make safer choices when purchasing child restraint systems.
