The Ultrasounds Save Lives Act of 2025 would require abortion providers to perform an ultrasound and provide patients with specific information before performing an abortion procedure. Abortion providers must present a signed informed consent form at least 24 hours before the procedure, which must include the fetus's gestational age, all medical risks associated with the abortion, and developmental characteristics of the unborn child at that stage of development. The law exempts compliance only in cases of medical emergency that pose a serious risk to the pregnant woman's life or substantial physical impairment. Violations would result in civil penalties ranging from $100,000 to $250,000 per offense, depending on whether it is a first or repeat violation, and women or parents of minors would also have the right to sue abortion providers for damages, including statutory damages equal to three times the cost of the abortion. The pregnant woman herself would not face any penalties for violations of the law.
