The BRIDGE Act extends and expands the Work Opportunity Tax Credit, a federal tax incentive that encourages employers to hire people facing employment barriers. The bill extends the credit through December 31, 2030 (previously set to expire at the end of 2025) and broadens eligibility to include two new groups: individuals with criminal justice involvement (expanding the definition to include anyone convicted of a felony or incarcerated for at least 90 days, if hired within three years of release) and out-of-school youth. The legislation applies to individuals hired after the bill is enacted and directs the Treasury Secretary to issue implementing regulations. Additionally, it requires the Government Accountability Office to study the administrative process for claiming the credit within one year and recommend improvements to streamline employer requirements and coordination between agencies.
