Referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and in addition to the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
The Build More Power Act amends federal energy financing programs to support power plants that operate during emergencies. The legislation specifically allows energy infrastructure ordered to operate under federal emergency powers to qualify for government-backed loan guarantees, and it requires the Secretary of Energy to actively solicit loan applications from such facilities. The bill extends the deadline for two existing loan guarantee programs from 2026-2028 to 2032, and it sets aside at least $20 billion in loan guarantee authority specifically for emergency power generation projects. Within one year of enactment, the Secretary of Energy must report to Congress on the loan guarantees issued, the electric capacity added, and recommendations for supporting aging coal facilities.
